Cerebral arteriovenous malformation

CT angiography reveals a cerebral arteriovenous malformation (AVM) in layers 27 to 77 on the left side of the patient (note R = right). An arteriovenous malformation is a congenital vascular anomaly in which arteries are directly connected to veins, with no capillaries in between. From this AVM the blood flows through very thick veins upwards into the superior sagittal sinus and down into the sinus rectus.
